There are a number of disorders which can cause hair loss in dogs, but the most likely of them would be mange. This can be treated fairly easily, but you need to take your dog to the vet as soon as possible as mange is very contagious to other dogs and cats.

I have a miniature dachsund myself and they only get to be about 12 pound at the most. Regular dachsunds would get up to 15 pounds. My dachsund is small for a miniature and she will get to be about 7 pounds 10 at the most. But you have to watch how much they eat because these type dogs are prone to being obese. If given a choice they will eat and eat and eat.

I would think that if you are losing hair, its not because of what your eating though. But you could eat things with fiber in it.
Your miniature may need a good deworming if the winter coat does not completely shed off.
