Why should you stay away from a raccoon?

It is never okay to approach a wild animal, even if they appear harmless. Any creature could snap at any moment, and it is not a good idea for animals(besides your pets) to get used to humans(or depend on them for food). Lets say you got in the habit of feeding a cougar, that did not attack you. Once you went on vacation, and once you got back from it, learn the sad story that the cougar went to somebody else`s house to beg for food but did not get it.So, the cougar got mad and killed the people. Do you see what I mean?

Raccoons are amazing animals. They will open doors, gates, windows, trash cans to get food, and they are not afraid of humans. They will make homes in barns, attics, basements, hollow trees, and little nooks and crannies. They are attracted to bright shiny objects but once they latch on to one they won't let go. They make a fist and if this in a narrow area they won't let go to get free. They eat bugs, garbage, dog food, cat food, fish, crawdads, crayfish and other things. They carry a parasite that can be transmitted to humans. It is carried in their urine and can not be killed by any soap or mixture. They can be very mean and have claws and teeth. Yet, they are very smart. If you see one watch it for a time and see what they do.

Do not approach raccoons as they could be sick or be carrying rabies. Do not feed them as they will become accustomed to, and rely on, humans for food and can become pests.
