I think the reason for this could be that the engineers need to know the type of architecture then.
For eg. if the population was increasing, engineers would try and make such type of houses so as to fit in more people. Lesser place and more people.
Engineers also need to know how the water and electricity should b supplied, in case it has to be supplied to lots of places then they may find better means for it.

It matters less what you made and more what tools (ex. software tools) you have experience with, and whether they apply to the new product. Of course you would have to show that you know something about guitars, so that they know you would make a good product.
