Tail docking is performed mostly for cosmetic reasons and therefore was banned in the UK in 2007. The procedure can be dangerous and can possibly lead to the puppy dying of shock or excessive bleeding if done unprofessionally. This, despite some breeders claims, must be excruciatingly painful for the puppy. However, most puppies survive and soon forget about it. It has been proven that Dog's which are docked take longer to learn how to stand and run as their balance is off. In later life, the Dog will run slower and may develop sacral Arthritis - a direct result of tail amputation. It has also been proven that as other dog's cannot tell if a docked dog's tail is wagging or not, they may react aggressively. An adult dog which loses it's tail has to re-learn to balance. The tail is a crucial form of communication and natural balance aid for the dog and removing it has it's impacts. Of course, despite this impediment, many docked dogs can enjoy life normally and happily as they have never known life with a tail.

How do you dock on Oolite?

Docking in Oolite is a painfully difficult adventure, and a major source of death for Jamesons. It's a very good idea to get a docking computer as soon as possible.Until you can get the docking computer, you'll need to risk your life with a manual docking. You need to line up carefully with the big docking bay slot - there's a navigation buoy lined up with the slot. From the buoy, fly towards the docking bay. When you get close to the bay, you'll need to start spinning. The actual slot spins, and you need to spin with it. Carefully match your spin with the slot's, and you should be able to fly through it and safely dock.

Why do dogs tails need to be docked?

AnswerYou can blame it on breeders and dogs being in Show. When dogs are bred for Show there are requirements of certain breeds whether the dog was born that way or not. There are some breeds of dogs that are born with stubby tails.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------It is not just a show thing for several breeds of dog. The docking of a tale in some species of dog, especially work dogs but also for some breeds of house dogs, can prevent medical problems such as infection and necrosis in the dogs adult life. Some dogs are prone to injuring their tales, which takes a long time to heal. This can lead to infection, pain, and death of tissue in the dogs tail, requiring surgery. Even with surgery, an adult dog (or most dogs over a few days old) have a slower healing time, increased stress levels due to the procedure, and a risk of infection which may even lead to the death of the animal. Before taking an anti-docking stance, I would suggest researching more into the reasons behind it. It is often a preventative measure to ensure less medical problems in the adult dog.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There are a number of historical reasons for tail docking which have nothing to do with dog showing.
