I have a neighbor that shved his pug in the middle of winter and the pug died of hyperthermia. Please caution when shaving animals. Some people do it because of allergys. However, If this is the case please ask you vet. Their are rx's to help the dandruff. Please don't shave dogs un- appriapate matter. It seems cruel and they are helpless. There are certain breeds of dogs that should not be shaved and your German Shepherd is one of them. If you got the dog from the ASPCA and the dog has a lot of mats they will often shave the dog close to the skin. If your groomer did it or you did it .... shame! I have a Bichon Frise that has very curly hair like sheeps wool and I just had her shaved down (but not right to the skin) or else she gets very hot. It's late spring where I live and the weather is warmer. The above poster is correct in saying that dogs should never be shaved close during winter months. It might make his life cooler now that summer is here, but remember, dogs have their natural coats for a reason. When you remove their coats you have to watch them in the sun. They can be overheated and become sun burned just like humans.
