My dog chews on coconut shells, and my vet asked what my secret was for the excellent condition of my dogs teeth. I told him she chews on coconut husks. Laughing he said, "Every time I see a dog with excellent, healthy teeth and gums, that's always the answer I get". So, it's actually beneficial, eliminating bacteria and plaque, which we all know now can cause a host of illnesses.
