This response is based on the set of CTQ (critical to quality) our team framed for one of our client. CTQs are of three types
1. Defect based CTQ
2. Yield based CTQ
3. Boolean based CTQ While setting the benchmark for quality standards for a deliverable,
CTQ comes in handy to set the limits with the help of numbers. For instance: If a quality requirement insists
There should not be more than 2 typos per page of the documents delivered
This a defect based CTQ, that means if there are either zero, 1 or 2 typos per page and not more
than that, then the CTQ is met, else is not met Similarly there are Yield based and Boolean based CTQs.
These CTQs are mostly set during the project initial stage and the development teamwork towards to achieve them.
A management review mechanism typically involves senior management evaluating the performance of projects, including their adherence to quality standards. This process helps identify areas for improvement, assess risks, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. If a mechanism lacks this review aspect, it may miss critical insights necessary for driving quality and overall project success. Therefore, effective management reviews are essential for maintaining high-quality performance across projects.
If activity is accelerated in the critical path, then it may no longer be the critical path, assuming some other activity now takes longer.
Agreeing on quality measures within a team establishes a shared understanding of expectations and standards, fostering accountability and consistency in work. It helps in aligning team members towards common goals, improving collaboration and communication. Additionally, clear quality measures enable the identification of areas for improvement and facilitate objective evaluation of performance, ultimately enhancing overall productivity and outcomes.
While there are no predefined and universally agreed-upon key factors to the success of implementing TQM within an organization, there are few very common areas that have been touched by several researchers that appear to be critical. 1. Organizational Culture & Quality Management: The values, vision and strategic plan of an organization should be customer focused with clear and a well developed quality management system in order to successfully implement TQM. 2. Work Teams & Individual Employees An organization's structure with empowered, self-directed teams (consisting of cross-trained members) and the continuous development of its employees supports the smooth installation of TQM. 3. Supplier Management: Effective supplier management (quality standards, partnership agreements, etc...) is another highly agreed upon factor that did prove significant impact on the implementation of TQM. Other factors that have been discussed in different researches include top executive commitment to TQM, performance and results measurement/rewarding and process quality management.
The main processes in Project Quality Management are: quality planning and assurance, quality control and quality improvement
