Some strategies are said to be intended and others are emergent. The intended strategy are ones which are explicitly planned and implemented. Emergent srategies develop over time and come from gradual changes in operation or behaviour.

There are examples of where copmanies have been successful in each strategy and indeed some situations may be a combination of the two.

There is not one way which is better in all situations and it really does depend on the situation and a wide range of other factors such as leadership, learning processes etc.
