If Terms like CEO< CFO<COO<CAO are used there is no question of who is in charge (CEO) But CEO is not necessary a Job Title for example the President may be the CEO, or possibly the Chairman of the Board of Directors may be the CEO. So you cannot make any assumptions unless you have more info. There are three that are almost universally used. CEO, CFO, and COO. Chief Ececutive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Cheif Operating Officer. Their use varies. For example, the CFO is assumed to be the Firm's Chief Financial Officer, but he/she may have any one of many titles, ie..the Controller, The Vice Pres. of Finance, The Treas., etc. It can be more confusing because some combine titles or positions ie...Vice President and Treasurer, The Vice President of Finance may be recognized as the chief financial person, but also the COO. Some firms have no President as a title in common use. The President may, in fact be the Vice Pres. & General Manager.
