It really depends upon the quality of the course and the content which is covered. A good course should cover the basics which are:
- how projects differ from "business as usual"
- the project lifecycle
- scope, cost, time, risk, quality, communications and stakeholder management
- scheduling and critical path analysis
If the course covers all these things then it's covering the basics. If the course includes some practical exercises, this will help you learn faster and give you more confidence to be able to apply the different tools and techniques on your project.
In my experience, all of the above topics and more could be found on a typical PRINCE2 course.
One other thing to consider of course is the experience of the trainer. If they can not only talk the talk but also walk the walk, you will gain more from the course.
Project management courses offer training in areas such as project initiation; risks, estimates and contracts; planning; building and leading the team; and Standards, methodologies and reflections.

To obtain a project management certification without prior experience, you can start by enrolling in a certification program such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM). These programs typically require a certain number of hours of project management education in lieu of work experience. You can also consider taking online courses or attending workshops to gain the necessary knowledge and skills. Additionally, studying and passing the certification exam is essential to obtaining the certification.
