Folding a button up shirt:
1. Find where the shoulder seam meets with the collar (2 of them).
2. Bring those two points together and find the 2 seams where the shoulder meets the sleeve.
3. Bring those two points together.
4. Match the sleeves and shake the shirt a little so that the 2 side seams match making a crease down the middle of the shirt.
5. Now you can fold the sleeves in and the shirt in half or however you prefer to fold.
To fold a shirt into a crop top, first lay the shirt flat on a surface. Then, fold the bottom hem of the shirt up to the desired length of the crop top. Next, fold the sleeves inwards towards the center of the shirt. Finally, fold the shirt in half horizontally to create the crop top shape.
To properly fold a shirt, lay it flat with the front facing down. Fold one sleeve across the back of the shirt, then fold the other sleeve the same way. Fold the bottom of the shirt up to the top, then fold it in half again. Smooth out any wrinkles and store it neatly.

No, although society usually expects it, there are many ways in which a dress shirt alone can look good as well, depending on the design of the dress shirt of course. It also depends on where you want to wear it or what for.
