Ms is unmarried

Actually, it is either one. The whole reason Ms. was introduced was to replace two separate titles Miss (unmarried) and Mrs. (married). Since a mas is Mr. either way, Ms. lets a woman be know as herself, not specifying as So-and-so's wife or Such-and-such's unmarried daughter. See the related link.
