It is fine. Keep in mind you are bound by the U.C.M.J. and M C & C , (United States Military only, and if not of the US military then the respective laws set for your country's military members) and you must keep in mind that you represent your country's armed forces, your country's government, and the people of your country when you attend these special events, so don't make a spectacle of yourself. That being said it does not hurt to ask your immediate superior if it is appropriate or not for you to wear the symbol of your status as a member of your country's armed forces to those events.
