Best is to grab from behind and pull backwards. Pulling from in front causes the ears to flex perpendicular to the head, leading to a less efficient grip. Ideally try to lean the person backwards diagonally so that only the heels of their shoes are making contact with the ground. This reduces friction. If the shape of the person's ears supports it, try to 'hook' the ear by curling your index finger into the ear cavity and grabbing behind the ear with the thumb. This is preferable to the pinch grip since it is more stable and reduces the volume of the pained squealing noises coming from the owner of the ears.
