There isn't much one can really say as there is no greater loss than a child even if the child has not been born yet. A lovely card with a short comment under and then signed is the easiest way to deal with this. Often people will say 'your little one is sitting close to God' or, 'there is a reason for everything.' Don't say this as the grieving person needs to go through the grief (which is normal) on their own and no words are going to help the loss they feel. Each individual grieves in a different way. You can let them know how sympathetic you are towards their loss and that if there is anything you can do to please call you (leave your phone number.) Perhaps in a couple of weeks if you know this person well then phone them up and ask if they would like to go for lunch and they just may talk your ear off about their feelings and the pain they feel, but, sometimes women prefer to move on from such an experience and just your friendship with some much needed laughter may be the best medicine for this person so they can heal and move on.

You say "my condolences", not "my condolence". For example, if someone you know has passed away, you would write in a sympathy card "I am sorry for your loss, my condolences".

What is best condolence message?

I think the best condolence message you can give is "You are in our thoughts and prayers." If that is too generic write something from your heart. Lots of people use "I'm sorry for your loss" but how can you be sorry if you didn't cause the loss? I've spoken to many people and they don't understand how people can say I'm sorry for your loss. Something from the heart is always appreciated.

What is a good example of a condolence message?

There are several ways for one to write a condolence message as there are several types of condolences that can be given. For example, one suggestion on a message of condolence for the loss of a friend or family member would be for the individual to say how they regret the passing of the person and then, if the deceased was personally known, a short but sweet personal memory.

Do you need to answer condolence cards?

I don't believe that you need to, but you probably should send a thank you card Most people find it a difficult and awkward task. "When is the appropriate time to say it', 'What to say', 'How to say it', and 'How to react to their emotions' becomes problematic. At situations like these it is wise to consider some dignified and most preferable sayings that are experienced by people like us at the time of expressing condolence. How do you offer condolence to a friend when his grandfather dies?

You can say something as simple as "I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. How are you feeling about this?" Taking time to listen to your friend to talk about his loss shows that you're a real friend, someone who is there for them not only for the good times, but for those harder ones that hit us all.
