I am a female, fifty-two year old, third grade teacher. I prefer to see teachers dress in business casual attire. In recent years, I have seen more and more, mostly young teachers, wearing low cut tops with cleavage showing, super-short skirts, and thin rubber flip-flops in place of shoes. I find that low-cut tops send an innappropriate message to young people. One can dress comfortably, casually, and professionally without showing our breasts or butts. I am afraid that the public and our school administrators will take us less seriously when we want their respect and higher wages. Whether people admit it or not, we are usually judged by how we dress. I gave up nylon pantyhose years ago, and I never wear heels, but I try to choose stylish (fun!), colorful clothing that fits well and covers my body well. Isn't this the least we can do as professionals?
