Going commando
The term "going commando" is believed to have originated in the 1990s, particularly in military slang referring to soldiers who would forego underwear for comfort or practicality. It gained wider popularity through media and pop culture, often associated with a carefree or rebellious attitude. The phrase has since evolved into a colloquial expression for not wearing underwear in general.
Believe it or not, actual commandos, or soldiers, went without underwear. Spending so much time in tropical, moist environments, commandos wearing extra layers of clothing, such as underwear, are prone to devloping maladies like skin rashes, chafing, and jock itch, and so they "go commando."

The term "gachees" for long underwear is believed to have originated from the French word "gache," which refers to a type of garment worn underneath clothing. It became popular in Quebec and among French-speaking communities in Canada, where it evolved into "gachees." The term has since been adopted in broader Canadian English, particularly in informal contexts, to describe warm, thermal underwear.
