Where does it say you shouldn't blow your nose with your fingers in public? Some things are simply custom. This particular one goes back hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

Turning your back on a person is pretty universally understood as a sign of disrespect. Obviously you can turn your back on a queen. But don't expect to be invited to any more royal functions.
