People eat with a fork and knife, for a number of reasons. One would be so that they don't get food on their hands , or fingers. Or because the food is hot most of the time , to keep from causing heat pain to these parts. Another is that , especially in western society , the food is , for the most part cooked in large pieces , so this requires these types of utensils to make smaller portions to fit into the mouth. In Asian countries food is cut up , and cooked in small pieces so people use either fingers, pieces of flat bread , or chopsticks . On another note , food cooked in smaller pieces , cooks faster , and uses less fuel to cook it .
