Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that God the Father is the Creator and Father of all things. (See John 1:3; Acts 17:24; Malachi 2:10; Ephesians 4:6; Proverbs 16:4; Revelation 4:11) As such, we can logically come to the conclusion that He is the Father and creator of Jesus Christ, as well as the Father and Creator of Satan - making Jesus a "brother" of Satan in the same spiritual sense that Christ is the elder brother of you and of me.

Mormons believe that Satan became the devil and was cast out of heaven because he disobeyed God by trying to exalt himself and usurp God's authority and power. (see Isaiah 14:12-14; Luke 10:18)

The Bible Dictionary published by the Church has this to say about the devil or Satan:

"…The devil is the enemy of righteousness and of those who seek to do the will of God. Literally a spirit son of God, he was at one time 'an angel' in authority in the presence of God, however, he rebelled in the premortal life…[and was] cast out of heaven…"

It should not be an extraordinary thing to say that God created Satan, as the Bible itself states that God created "all things… even the wicked" (Proverbs 16:4). If God did not create Satan, He would not be the Almighty Creator of all things, as the Bible says He is.

In short, Mormons believe that both Satan and Jesus are sons (creations) of God, just as all mankind are children of God, because the Bible says that God created all things.

When Mormons pray why don't they say Our Dear Heavenly Father of Satan since it's the truth according to them?

Because Mormons believe that God the Father is the Father and creator of ALL THINGS, including you, me, Jesus Christ, and Satan. Therefore we are all brothers and sisters. Just as you and I are brothers, Jesus is our brother, Satan is our brother, and Jesus and Satan are brothers. The difference is Satan was rebellious and tried to take the power of his Father, and therefore was cast out. We don't close our prayers that way because Satan lost all the opportunities and privileges that come with being a child of God when he rebelled.

What do Mormons believe about the devil?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the 'Mormon' church) believe that the devil (also called Satan or Lucifer) is a very real being. He is the enemy of righteousness and strives to lead us away from God. Mormons believe that men have power over Satan. Satan cannot force a mortal man or woman to do anything, he can only deceive them and tempt them to turn from God. Mormons believe that Lucifer was once an angel in heaven, but disobeyed God and then was cast out of heaven and became the devil. When he was cast out, some of the host of heaven chose to go with him and have become his minions. Mormons also believe that although Satan does not have a physical body, he looks like a man. He doesn't have red skin, horns, and a tail, nor does he look like a monster or a serpent. Check out the "Related Links" to learn more about what Mormons believe about the devil.

Do the mormons believe that jesus died on a pole instead of a cross?

No, Mormons believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross, just like most other Christians. Mormons believe and study the Bible throughly, so the accounts there are what we believe. Mormons dont however use the cross as a religious symbol like many other religions... Perhaps you are thinking of the Jehovah's Witnesses? They do not believe that Jesus died on a cross.

Do Mormons believe Jesus and the devil are brothers?

Yes indeed. According to the Bible, both Jesus, and the 'spirit being' that later became 'the devil', they were both born from Jehovah God (fathered by God). In the Bible, Jesus is called 'the firstborn of all creation'. So, (very likely for milliniums), they were brothers, as are all the angels. In fact, everyone here on earth, is part of God's great family. Angels are spirit creatures; humans are physical creatures; but we are all 'brothers', since we are all fathered by God. This is one view. Perhaps there are also other views.
