There are seven Romen Numerals which are listed below.

I =1

V =5

X =10

L =50

C =100

D =500

M =1000

When writing any other number you simply use a combination of these letters. To read the number you use basic addition and subtraction while reading from left to right. For example counting from 1 - 20 in omen numerals is I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII,VIII,XI,X,XI,XII,XIII,XIV, XV, XVI, XVII, XVIII, XIX, XX

For detailed instructions on how to read/write roman numerals see the related links below but a tip is to break the number up by each of its positions, converting that section then sliding the letters together.

Tip Example:

Convert 1446 to each position then convert just that position's roman numeral.

1000 = M

400 = CD

40 = XL

6 = VI

That's it, from largest number to smallest number and that's the correct roman numeral.

1446 = MCDXLVI

30 = XXX

3 = III

2011 = MMXI
