How does the Bible describe sin?

The Hebrew term translated "sin" is chat‧ta'th′; (Greek:ha‧mar‧ta′no), and both mean "miss," as in missing or not reaching a goal or mark. At Judges 20:16 this word is used to describe the Benjamites who were 'slingers of stones .. and would not miss.' The word is used to mean 'failing to reach' (falling short of) physical as well as moral & intellectual goals.

Proverbs 8:35, 36 says the one finding godly wisdom finds life, but the 'one missing [from Heb., cha‧ta'′] wisdom is doing violence to his soul,' leading to death. In the Scriptures both the Hebrew and Greek terms refer mainly to sinning on the part of God's intelligent creatures, their 'missing the mark' with regard to their Creator. (Romans 3:23) " For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

The Bible describes sin as the cause of death and explains it's origin and solution:

(Genesis 1:31 and Genesis 2:17(Gen.3:6)) Man was created perfect and could have lived forever, but chose to disobey. Now falling short of perfection, he was a 'sinner'.

(Romans 5:12) "through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned. (Psalms 51:5)(Job 14:1-4)

(James 1:14-15) . . .But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.(Romans 7:21-25)

(Romans 6:23) . . .For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.(Hebrews 4:15)(1 John 2:1 & 2)
