To correct mistakes on a letter typed on a traditional typewriter, you can use correction fluid to cover the error and then retype the correct character over it. If the mistake is minor, you can also use a typewriter eraser to erase the character before retyping it. Be sure to let the correction fluid dry completely before continuing typing on the paper.
To load refillable-type correction tapes, you need to open the correction tape's "body", remove the empty cartridge, and insert a new cartridge. Remember, you can only refill refillable correction tapes with a refill which is made for that particular brand and type of correction tape.
The Selectric II is a typewriter. Ribbon is called a cassette, not cartridge. As I recall to replace ribbon there is a lever on right of it that is pulled forward to release used ribbon. Correctable model also uses a correction tape.
To remove correction tape from paper, you can use a small amount of rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover on a cotton swab or paper towel. Gently dab at the area with the correction tape until it starts to lift off the paper. Be careful not to tear the paper while removing the tape.

A manual typewriter is the typewriter that was used before the Electric Typewriter was invented.
This can vary as it depends on the capability of the typewriter. With traditional typewriters that type as you press each key, you may have to use "white-out" or correction tape and then type over the covered error. In some typewriter models, there is a correction tape already mounted inside the typewriters and you can hit a key to have it either cover or "pick up" the error (depending on the type of ribbon used to print the characters on the paper) and then type as normal once again. With other models of typewriters and with word processors, they do not actually type what you have entered until you press the carriage return key or it otherwise fills its buffer. In this case, if you notice that you made an error before anything is printed, you just review what you have typed in its LCD display and make the appropriate correction. If the entered data has already been typed by the machine, then refer to the above paragraph, though typing a correction on one of these machines after correcting a printed error is more complex since it is not as simple as just moving the platen to the place of the error and hitting a key again.
The earliest news wire machines were simply telegraphs. They used a system of dots and dashes or short and long sounds. A person at the other end would write down the letters for the sounds. Next came typewriters. There was a standard typewriter. Attached to the typewriter on the side was a punching machine that could punch paper tape. The paper tape looked exactly like the tape that comes out of a cash register. Across a paper tape, there would be 7 positions. Each place could be a blank spot or a hole. As the typist typed, the machine punched the tape. The tape came out of the machine. Then the typist finished. If the article looked acceptable, the typist would feed the tape into the machine and it would send it to another typewriter or punched tape machine. Sometimes the punched tape would come into a machine and be put into the typewriter. Then the typewriter would type out the story. The seven hole punched tape was actually quite simple. It was originally designed for the weaving industry. Then it made it to the newspaper industry. Then it made it to the computer industry. CP/M the predecessor of the windows operating system had provision for it.
