In does not appear in the Masoretic and Textus Receptus, (earliest and considered best translations of the Hebrew and Greek). It makes its first appearance in the Latin Text called the Vulgate in the 5th Century AD.

Most scholars would agree that the idea of a 'rapture' theology was developed in the 1830s by John Nelson Darby and the Plymouth Brethren Church. It grew more popular in circa 1920s by the Scofield Reference Bible. Perhaps it reached its acme with the LaHaye 'Left Behind series of books.
