There were two trials. Jesus was questioned and indicted by Annas, the previous High priest, who then bound Him sent Him to Caiphas, where He was falsely condemned. Since it was the Passover, these errant leaders illegally trying Christ, did not wish public exposure to their activity and spoil their religious ritual. "Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover." John 18:28. Thus Pilate tried Jesus, but found "in him no fault at all." As he attempted to release Christ, after a custom at Passover (v.39), the crowd demanded that he release Barabbas instead. He thus delivered Christ to be crucified, after declaring: "I find no fault in him." John 19:6. He then attempted to release Christ once more, but the crowd insisted: "Crucify him." (v.15).

The gospels that we know about included: Gospel of JamesThe Gospel of JohnGospel of JudasThe Gospel of LukeThe Gospel of MarkThe Gospel of MatthewThe Gospel of PeterThe Gospel of PhilipThe Gospel of ThomasIt is well established that none of the disciples actually wrote an eyewitness account, but many of the disciples were honoured with gospels in their names, including Matthew and John and several others.

Mark's Gospel, followed by Matthew and Luke, says that the betrayal and arrest of Jesus occurred at the darkest hour - midnight. Jesus was led away for a trial before the high priest and other senior priests and elders at 3am in the morning. Jesus was then led away for a second trial by Pontius Pilate "when it was morning', at 6am. Mark says that it was "the third hour" - 9 am - when they crucified him. So, there were two trials and each trial must have taken something less than three hours.Notwithstanding that, it was the practice in compliance with the Torah not to sit in judgement except in the light of day. John's Gospel resolves this problem by not having a formal trial by the Sanhedrin, simply having Jesus brought first to Annas, then to Caiaphas, before being taken to Pontius Pilate. So, John's Gospel has only one trial of Jesus.
The two disciples Matthew and John wrote Gospels about Jesus' life. Many also believe that Peter was an important source for the Gospel of Mark.
