Yes. Simon was Peter's original name. He later became the first Pope, according to Catholic teaching.

The New Testament mentions up to eight more Simons, some of whom it is difficult to make a decision either way, and in any case, it is important to know that a person persevered in the faith to the end, so any comment can only be provisional.

1.Simon the Zealot. One of Jesus disciples. Insufficient Data.

2. A brother of James and Jude and half-brother of Jesus. (Mark 13:55, Mark 6:3). Insufficient data.

3. Simon the Leper (Matthew 26:6-13) Insufficient data.

4. Simon of Cyrene, who carried the cross for Jesus. Probably a believer.

5. Simon the Pharisee. Insufficient data, but on the basis of the story, doubtful. Luke 7:40,43-44.

6. The father of Judas Iscariot. (John 6:71 and 13:2,26). Insufficient data.

7. The Samaritan magician. Claimed to be a believer, but then tried to but the power of God, leading to the title "Simony" to describe the use of bribes to but religious office. Doubtful. see Acts 8.

8. The tanner. A Christian convert with whom Peter lodged while at Joppa.

Acts 9:43
