Answer:
suggestion: If you have never read The Bible... and WANT to; understand that the Bible isn't a "novel" with a coherent plot and story flow. The first time you read the Bible, therefore... just read it through from Genesis to Revelation.
Don't stop... just read. Don't study... just read. Don't try to figure anything out... just read - until you come to the end.
You will have a feeling of "accomplishment" for just having done that. Not that many people have done it.
And though you haven't studied it... you will discover that you have "retained" some things about what you have read. You may not know where in the book you read it... but, at least you now have a core knowledge of some of what the Bible does say instead of what someone told you it says.
The "study" of God's Word is a different story, however.
It's not a matter of picking and choosing chapters... but with the aid of an exhaustive concordance... going where your subject of study takes you here and there in the Book.
God had His Word written in such a way that the reader has to be not only willing to dig into it to find the whole picture of the Truth it paints... but also has to read and study it with the right "attitude." A believing, faithful, child-like attitude of trust that it means what it says.
The natural carnal human mind, that's skeptical and critical of God's Word, will never be able to grasp the Truth waiting for the faithful heart and the converted mind that "drinks in" its divine nourishment and "chews on" and "digests" the wisdom, knowledge and understanding the Bread of Life imparts to the growing, developing child of God who consumes it.
That's one reason why the Bible is so misunderstood in the world... why so many denominations and beliefs exist... because of the way God caused it to be written:
"...the Word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken..." (Isa.28:13).
So, if you just want to read the Bible... just, read it through as it is compiled and presented in its entirety.
But, if you want to study the Bible... still, read it through. But, first... "pray to the Father for His guidance and understanding of His Word - and ask for it in Jesus' name."
The order of study and places to begin varies with the individual(s) and/or study "groups." But the prayer must precede everything else... or nothing else matters.
It's God's Living Word. Open communications with Him, first. The chapters and verses will take care of themselves.

-If you know the Bible Readings you missed, then read them. and -"Proverbs" has 31 Chapters, so read the one for that particular day of the Month. and -Open "Psalms" at random and read both pages. and -read a few chapters out of any one of the Gospels. However, before all this, the most important thing you can do is to first tell God something like "Oops! Sorry about that - couldn't make: get me to read what you want me to read."
It would greatly depend if the church uses the Bible during the services, and how much they use the Bible or read from it. Some Christians religions use the Bible throughout the services and even read portions directly from it. Many churches refrain from doing this though for a variety of reasons.
