There are many different English translations of The Bible, but 'forged by fire' does not appear in the two most popular translations, The KJV or the NIV (King James Version, New International Version).

a) There are two mentions of 'forged' - it has to do with tool & weapon making:

Gen. 4:22 Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.

Is. 54:17 no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

b) Our actions are going to best "tested by fire"

(1Cor. 3:13) His work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work...... If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. (NIV)

c) Then there are a few verses referring to the action of smelting (here are a couple):

Prov. 17:3 ¶ The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart.

Prov. 25:4 ¶ Remove the dross from the silver, and out comes material for the silversmith;
