We know that the four evangelists, who wrote the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, used the Septuagint Bible, an early Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures.

Evidence of this can be found, for example, in Mark 7:7, where Jesus is said to have quoted words from the Book of Isaiah: "in vain do they worship me." This comes from Isaiah 29:13 - but only the Septuagint and only in Greek. The Septuagint was never used in ancient Palestine, so these words could not really have been spoken by Jesus.
