You touch upon the question as to how the Gospel of Matthew is to be understood and interpreted, and the best we can say is that scholars disagree about this, as scholars will.
Here is a sketch of one approach that aligns with your question. When we compare Matthew to the other gospels, it appears that Matthew is "the teaching Gospel" in which the author gathers together all the teachings of Jesus in 5 great discourses. These all can be summarized as being about the Kingdom of God as follows
(1) The Law of the Kingdom (the Sermon on the Mount), chapter 5
(2) The duties of Kingdom leaders - chapter 10
(3) Parables of the Kingdom -13
(4) Greatness and Forgiveness in the Kingdom -18
(5) The coming of the King - 24 and 25

The earliest manuscripts of the Gospel According to St Mark end at verse 16:8, when the women fled after being told by the young man that Jesus was risen. There have been two later additions to Mark's Gospel, called the "short ending" and the "long ending", which provide resurrection appearances and attempt to harmonise the Gospel with those of Matthew and Luke. It has been noted that the long ending uses a different writing style to the main body of Mark. It is the long ending that is published in most modern Bibles.
Most biblical scholars accept that the Gospel According to St Mark was the first written of the four canonical Gospels. Mark's Gospel was written in Greek, and there is ample evidence that Matthew's Gospel and Luke's Gospel were based on Mark's Gospel. St John's Gospel appears to have been based on Luke's Gospel, but the author clearly also knew Mark's Gospel and copied some material from it. Ian Wilson (Jesus: The Evidence) says that it can come as a shock to discover that no-one can even be sure who wrote the gospels. Nevertheless much scholarly study has gone into establishing approximately when they were written.Mark's Gospel was written in the late 60s or very early in the 70s CE, thus around 40 years after the most commonly accepted dates for the death of Jesus.Matthew's Gospel was written after Mark's, but before Luke's Gospel. It is generally considered to have been written in the 80s CE. This means that it was probably written more than 50 years after the death of Jesus.Luke's Gospel is generally considered to have been written in the 90s CE, but could well be from early in the second century. It comes some 70 years after the death of Jesus, and long after all his contemporaries were dead.John's Gospel is generally considered to have been written a little after Luke, and a date early in the second century is probable. Once again, this Gospel is dated more than 70 years after the generally accepted date of the crucifixion.

It doesn't if you listen to his speeches, his words are long, but don't make sense together. Many think, when listening to his speeches he is smart because of his convincing and good speeches. Remember, that the president doesn't write his speeches, he has a group of essay writers.
