For the most part a finished width of 36" is the minimum. If not cramped for room, 42" is nice. Length on the other hand has many variables to consider. The degree (angle) of which your stair descends is one. The size of your floor system (joist, ceiling rock and sub flooring) is another. Also, 80" most likely is the minimum headroom you'll need to have from the edge of the nosing of the treads to the bottom of the floor at it's tightest spot. The degree is determined by the rise and tread sizes used. The steeper the stair, the shorter the stairwell can be. Of course there are codes limiting the rise and tread sizes. Stair stringers cut with 7" risers and 11" treads with 2x12 joists will need a stairwell size of 147 1/4". With 7 3/4" riser and 10" tread and 2x12 joists the well would have to be 121". That's more than 2' 2" difference. And switching to 14" I joists you would lose almost 3" of headroom and so the stairwell would have to be enlarged to 151 5/8" or 124 5/8" respectively. All the answers are in a book entitled "Stairwell Lengths For All Situations".

What are standard briefcase dimensions?

There is not an agreed standard size.

What is the area of one brick?

Standard brick dimensions are 215x102.5x65mm.

Building a stairwell what are dimensions?

that would depend upon the distance between floors. with a distance of approx. 9' it would be around 37" wide and 8' long. The floor to floor height is only 1/3 of the solution for figuring out the stairwell length. That, with the tread, will give you the angle of the staircase. The less slope of the stairs, the bigger the well size needs to be for headroom clearance at the bottom. The other thing that needs to be figured in is the thickness of the floor system. The taller the joists, the sooner you'll hit your head and so the stairwell will need to be longer. For instance, 7 3/4"riser, 10"tread and 2x10 joists the well size needs to be 118 1/2" from the stair nosing edge to the head joist. For 2x12 joists it's 121". You'll need to add a little to this depending on how you hang your stingers for the actual framing of the stairwell. Check out stairwell-lengths.com for a book on all stairwell lengths for every angle and joist size.

What is the standard way to list dimensions?

I believe it is horizontal by vertical. (example: 12x24)

How any dimensions does a solid object have?

A solid object typically has three dimensions: length, width, and height. These dimensions allow us to define its volume and spatial characteristics. In some contexts, additional dimensions can be considered, such as time in physics, but for geometry and everyday solids, three dimensions are standard.
