Jhn 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
At this point in the Gospel of John, Jesus knows and has communicated that He is going to die on the Cross, and be raised (he has said this, but they did not understand). Chapters 15-17, include Jesus' prayer for his followers, and discourse on who He is and what 'the whole thing was about'. He is noting in John 15:15, a maturation in understanding, and in relationship to God. He has accomplished the teaching from God, the Father, and made known unto his disciples the fullness of understanding.
As they have received the 'fullness' of understanding and grown in the Word of God and the Way, Truth, and Life of God, (14:6); they are now elevated to a more dear position : friends. The word 'friend' is 'philos' which indicates someone who in affection draws near, and in another passage, the 'friend' of the bridegroom (Jesus is likened to a bridegroom, with his Bride, Israel/ the Church), using the same word, is the one who attends and helps with the certain 'marriage' of the Lamb.
