The Pharisees were asking Jesus about divorce. Jesus refused to be drawn into the rabbinical controversy over the possible valid basis for divorce. Jesus pointed out that the permission of Deut. 24:1-4 ("because he hath found some uncleanness in her") was not God's original intent. Divorce was permitted only because of "the hardness of your heart." Then Jesus went back to God's original intent in Genesis 1:27; 2:24, permanent monogamy: one man and one woman together for life.

In order to understand proverbs chapter 1 verse 17 you need to read a couple versus before it and a couple after it. The passage is warning us not to get mixed up with people are purposely hurting others. Verse 17 in the message bible says "No one robs a bank with everyone looking".
