What does the Bible say about Jesus?

The Bible says:

Jesus was born as the son of God. An angel declared this - Luke 1:35. Spirits recognized this - Matthew 8:29. Jesus' disciples recognized this - Matthew 14:33, Mark 1:1. Other people recognized this - John 1:49.

Jesus was born of a virgin - Luke 1:35. He fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem - Matthew 2:1. He fulfilled the prophecy of Micah 5:2

Jesus is the 'lamb of God.' - John 1:29. The lamb was a sacrificial animal among the Jews. God had taught His chosen people to slay a lamb and to sprinkle its blood as a sacrifice. The lamb was killed as a substitute and its blood shed so that sins might be forgiven. Jesus died as a sacrifice for sin "whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life".

Jesus healed the sick - Matthew 4:24, cast out spirits - Matthew 8:31, did miraculous things - John 6:19, John 2:10,11

Jesus died on a cross - Luke 23:33. He was buried - Luke 23:52, 53. He rose from the dead - Matthew 28:7. After he rose from the dead he was seen by over 500 people - 1 Corinthians 15:6

Jesus is now high priest in heaven - Hebrews 8:1, Hebrews 9:11

Jesus is called - the 'Word' John 1:1,14.' Saviour' - Luke 2:11, John 4:42. 'The last Adam' - 1Cor 15:45. 'King of kings' - 1Timothy 6:15, Revelation 19:16. The alpha and omega - Revelations 22:13. The dayspring - Luke 1:78.

Jesus is coming again - Acts 1:11, 2Timothy 4:1, Titus 2:13,

Romans 1:4 says that Jesus became the Son of God at his resurrection. Paul is considered by some scholars as seeming unaware that Jesus of Nazareth was a man who had lived in the recent past. In the view of some, the life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus could have occurred entirely in the heavenly spheres.

Hebrews describes Jesus as the High Priest in heaven. Once again, the author does not clearly place Jesus on earth or in Nazareth.

Mark is considered to say that Jesus was a "son of man" (a human being) who became Son of God at his baptism.

In the infancy narrative, Matthew describes Jesus as pre-ordained for greatness, a point the gospel confirms by numerology in the genealogy of Jesus. Matthew drew parallels between Jesus and Moses. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and so was Son of God at the time of his birth. This Gospel sees Jesus as a mortal with divine power.

In the infancy narrative, Luke describes Jesus as pre-ordained for greatness, a point the gospel confirms by numerology in a quite different genealogy of Jesus. Lukesees Jesus as a mortal with divine power. After Jesus' death, Acts 2:22ff (by the same author) has God promote him to 'Lord' - suggesting divine, and sits him on God's right hand.

John's Gospel equates Jesus with the Greek Logos and says that he was pre-existing and divine. This Gospel draws parallels between Jesus and the paschal lamb.

All the gospels say that Jesus was crucified and resurrected, although Mark, in its earliest form, provides no evidence for the resurrection apart from the testimony of a young man. Two gospels say that the risen Jesus was taken up bodily to heaven, although in different places and circumstances.
