"D" indicates the coin was minted at the Denver Mint. "P" stands for Philadelphia, and "S" for San Francisco.
Nickels made in Philadelphia from 1866 to late 1942 and from 1946 to 1979 don't have a "P".
San Francisco minted nickels for circulation up till 1954, then again from 1968 to 1970. "S"-mint nickels are still made for inclusion in Proof Sets.
The "P" mintmark shows that the coin was produced by the US Mint at Philadelphia.
D: minted in Denver. P: minted in Philadelphia.
The Jefferson series of U.S. nickels known to have doubled die errors are: 1939-P/ 1943-P/ 1945-P.
Those are mint marks where the coins were made. D stands for Denver. P stands for Philadelphia.
If you mean a Buffalo Nickel with no mint mark, it was struck in Philadelphia. The P mint mark was used on nickels for the first time in 1980
The location the quarter was minted. I believe "D" is for Denver Colorado and "P" is for Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
Any Buffalo nickel with no mintmark was struck in Philadelphia. Nickels did not have a "P" mintmark until 1980.
2012
If you mean Mintmarks? Look for a large P, D, or S above the dome of Monticello on the reverse of the coin.
The "P" mintmark shows that the coin was produced by the US Mint at Philadelphia.
I mean this in the nicest way possible: You're nuts!!!!! :P :D :P :D :P :D :P :D :P :D :P :D :P :D
Five pennies in a nickel. (US coinage)
The "P" is the mintmark of the Philadelphia Mint. All U.S. coins from 1980 to 2012 made at this mint have a "P" mintmark. It's just a nickel, spend it.
D: minted in Denver. P: minted in Philadelphia.
??? Pennies are 1-cent coins, nickels are 5-cent coins. Saying "penny nickel" is like an "inch foot" and doesn't mean anything. Please post a new question after you determine what you have, including its denomination and mint mark (on a cent, there might be a D or S under the date, on a nickel there will be a P, D, or S above the dome of Monticello on the back)
That's a silver war nickel, containing 35% silver, and it's worth at least $2.
No, the only US nickels made out of silver are the 35% silver war nickels minted from 1942-1945 with a large P, D or S mintmark over the Monticello.
