Genesis tells us a number of important things:
-How the Earth and the universe got here in the first place (Genesis 1:1)
-How life came to be on Earth (Genesis 1:11-12, 20-25), including humanity (Genesis 1:26-27)
-Mankind's original assignments given to them by Jehovah God (Genesis 1:28)
-How mankind ended up being imperfect (Genesis 3:1-5 & 19)
-What it would take to redeem mankind by means of a prophecy (Genesis 3:15)
-How and why the majority of life was destroyed in a worldwide Flood (Genesis 6:5-7)
-The root of where the variety of languages, cultures and even religions began. (Genesis 11:1-8)
-How the journeys and exploits of the forefather of the nation of Israel, a.k.a. Abram, who became "Abraham" began (Genesis 12:1-2)
-The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, showing once more that Jehovah can bring out destruction on selective individuals and save His people, as well as the actions He detests (Genesis 18:20; 19:5, 13, 24-25)
-Who the nation of Israel is named after/descended from (Genesis 32:24-28)
-How Jacob/Israel's family ended up in Egypt (Genesis 37:23-28; 39:1-4, 7, 10-20; 40:8-15, 21-23; 41:1-40; 42:1-3, 8-17; 45:4-5, 13, 17-20; 46:5-7)
All of these things highlight to the reader the unfolding of Jehovah's purpose-To eventually bring mankind back to perfection thanks to the ransom of Christ's life. (John 3:16)

The Book of Acts
The Bible is the only book where God is speaking to us. The Bible is God telling us what we need to do with our lives. The Bible tells us that God is everything. He is omnipresent (everywhere), merciful, everlasting, caring, loving, all powerful, unchangeable, He is everything! It tells us that God came down in human form, lived in human life, and then died in pain for us. When Jesus came back to real life after 3 days, that meant that we could now speak to God on our own. Whatever questions you have about God, you can find the answer in the Bible. When you read the Bible, you're reading the word of God.
