The Bible states that God is one, known as the 'shema' found in Deuteronomy 6:4. But the Bible also uses the term 'Elohim' (Genesis 1:26) which is a plural 'Majestic' noun. Instead of letting men define the term, always let the Bible interpret itself. In John1:1-2 read the following: In the beginning was the Word (Logos who became Christ) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. So this plural noun 'Elohim' had 2 beings - The Father and the Word who would become the Son of God.

Two then are the current members of the Godhead. Think of it as a family with the Surname God currently with two beings but will soon have billions more via mankind as the Bible clearly states in many places.
