19 as roman numerals is XIX.

Note: The original answer has been deleted entirely and the above was submitted by another contributor. The original answer went something like this:-

In today's notation 19 in Roman numerals is accepted as being XIX.

But there is evidence that exist today to show that the Romans themselves probably wrote out 19 as XVIIII which can be simplified to IXX in the same way that IIII and VIIII (4 and 9) are simplified to IV and IX respectively.

Further proof can be found in the Latin language itself because the Latin words for XVIIII and IXX are 'novemdecim' and 'undeviginti' which when translated into English means nineteen and one from twenty respectively.

Strange as it may seem even today in the English language the units are pronounced before the tens from 13 to 19.
