Presumably you mean in Roman numerals?If so then the answer is VD but with an horizontal bar above the numeral V to indicate multiplication by thousand. So 5000+500 = 5500.
In todays modern notation of Roman numerals it is (V)CDXCVIII but the ancient Romans probably worked it out differently on an abacus counting device and simply wrote it out in written format as II(V)D which means 5500-2 = 5498
