A lot of detail could be entered here. The 'Law of first mention' refers to the importance of a word, a subject , or idea that is mentioned first in a particular passage of scripture, that is, in terms of its earliest mention in scripture. Not surprisingly many of these occur in Genesis. It is also considered that the first mention often lays down God's original purpose, meaning or intention on a particular subject.

Marriage would be an example of this principle where it is first mentioned in Genesis 2, it is intended to be a creation of God, of one man and one woman for life. Moses later changed this due to man's hardness of heart. Jesus, in His teaching on marriage returned to the 'first mention' as God's perfect and only plan for marriage.

Other examples of subjects or words first mentioned in Genesis are:

Altar 8:20

Angel 16:7

Atonement (pitch) 6:14

Believe 15:6

Bless 1:22

Blood 4:10

Book 5:1

Choose 6:2

City 4:17

Clothe 3:21

Command 2:16

Complete (perfect) 6:9

Conception 3:16

and of course there are many more with there being 87 in Genesis alone.
