You have what's called a clipped planchet. Sometimes the machinery used to cut blanks for coins will slip and chop a small amount out of another blank, or a coin may not eject properly from the coin press and it gets caught by the next strike*.

Given the number of coins minted each year, this turns out to be a somewhat common occurrence. Its value depends on the size of the clip. In nickels, small clips retail for a dollar or so and larger arcs can go for as much as $50.

(*) Coins are said to be struck or minted rather than "stamped". I don't know why, it's just the terminology used.
