A pulpit is an actual structure that surrounds the person. There's usually a few steps leading up to the pulpit, and the pulpit is usually a solid structure of carved wood, and lifted above the congregation slightly. A pulpit may have a lectern inside it.On the other hand, a lectern is more like a simple stand to hold a Bible/notes/written sermon and a microphone. Its usually at floor level, and not nearly as fancy as a pulpit.
