Jesus was and is the King of the Jews, as proclaimed by the wise men, (Matthew 2.2), and by Pilate, on Jesus' cross in three languages. (John 19.19,20). But the people who rule this world, (Herod and the soldiers then), think this of Jesus, the everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. "If he is a king, then let us crown him - with thorns!" And Jesus never argued; He is meek and lowly in heart.
He was scourged He was given the crown of thorns He was crucified
It was a nasty joke by the Romans - they said every "king" should have a crown so they made one for Jesus out of thorns which of course hurt. In doing this act, the soldiers fulfilled Bibilical prophecy.
Well, popes were carried around like kings due to: They were considered as divinely instituted, so they are considered a part of Divinity. Popes wear tiaras (the golden crown) because they represent: a. The judicial power (the authority on Canon Law) b. The spiritual power (the administration of all sacraments depend on him) c. The moral power of the pope (the power of Catholic morality enshadows even the toughness of Science!) We could never escape the fact that Christ was really humble, but remember the event on which Christ was carried on a donkey and even praised like a king. Unfortunately, these customs are miscontinued by the Second Vatican Council, and even Pope John XIII did not like to be carried around and wear the Tiara, but was forced to do so by his brother Cardinals and the customs of the time. Pope Paul VI discontinued the use of this precious crown. Pope John Paul and BXVI did not wear the tiaras given to them by the Hungarians...
It doesn't appear that it does. The Sycamore is a type of fig (Ficus Sycomorus), although inferior in quality to what we know as a fig. None of the figs I know have thorns. Add to that the fact it is the tree Zacchaeus climbed to get a better view of Jesus then it doesn't appear to be a thorny plant.
The deffinition of the number 58 is like a curse from a witch it is like a sickness that gradually gets worse in time. Similar to a thorn in the flesh.
