Medal of Honor is the correct nomenclature, each major branch of the military has their Medal of Honor. Award of the Medal of Honor is approved by congress and presented to the recipient by the president. Possibly because of congress authorization, the Medal of Honor gets tagged mistakenly as the Congressional Medal of Honor. Again, there is no Congressional Medal of Honor, if anyone can show me what one looks like I would appreciate it. I can easily show what each branch of military service has as their separate Medals of Honor. There IS a Congressional GOLD medal that is awarded by Congress via the President to civilians for non-military service to the US. This in NOT a military award. George M Cohen was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for writing songs for the war effort - WW1. But this was not for any military service. I just watched the Doolittle raid on the MILITARY CHANNEL (12/17/10) and they mistakenly said that Doolittle was awarded the CMOH. WRONG, He was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR by the Army Air Corp.
