Eye floaters are caused when light entering the eye strikes tiny bits of the vitreous humor that has globbed together. They are random and harmless. If you are seeing flashes however, you may have higher than normal pressure in the eye. This can press on the nerve and create these flashes. This should be checked out at your optometrist's office.
