You can eat as soon as the bleeding stops, but be very careful not to create any suction of any kind and try to keep all liquids off the area for 24 hours. In that 24 hours, you are not supposed to do anything that requires sucking like drinking through a straw or smoking. If you must smoke, tear off the filter and lightly puff. Trust me when I say you want to avoid, AT ALL COSTS, the excrutiating pain of Dry Socket! Dry Socket can make the pain last for days and even a couple weeks. I cheated my first time and ate soup with the gauze still clenched in my teeth. Just be sure not to swallow the gauze. ;-(
