Does a tongue piercing hurt

Everyone is different. If you have a lower pain threshold, then obviously it will hurt more. For me, the worst part of getting my tongue pierced was having to hold my tongue out while the piercer got the barbell and I drooled down the bib they gave me. It really isn't as painful as it looks. Even after it only feels like when your muscles ache after working out. 90% of people's tongues swell when they get pierced and it can last from 2 days to 2 weeks, 90% of people who swell, it only lasts around the 2-5 day range.

It's a piercing, it's going to hurt to some extent. However, when it comes to the tongue piercing most people I have talked to say that the most painful part of the piercing was the day after when the swelling sometimes pinched their tongue between the barbells. However, it should be noted that you are shoving a steel spike through your body with any piercing and then you are inserting a steel rod in an open wound... It's probably going to hurt.

for me it didnt hurt at all when i got it done but a few hours later it did, but like the guy above said it only felt like a muscle ache, i took 2 ibuprophen and almost all the pain was gone :)

It all depends on the person.

Some people have lower pain tolerances.

The pain while piercing normally is never the concern with tongue piercings. it is the swelling afterwards for a week or two that is most painful/annoying.

It swells to about 3 times its normal size, making it painful and difficult to eat or talk. Suck on an Icecube/eat ice cream and it helps.

The time of this swelling varies from person to person.

Also, use mouthwash, but find a non-alcoholic type. as the alcohol will sting as well as dry out the fresh piercing.

Yes, very much. It makes you want to rewind your life and tell yourself not to get it. :'( But you can't.

I've never had my tongue peirced but I've had my ears peirced and it hurts so getting your tongue peirced even more. If I were you I wouldn't peirce my tongue.

don't listen to this chick. for some ppl it hurts some it doesn't, but the decision is yours and don't let some whiny 13 year old crybaby tell you what you should do.

No it doesnt hurt at all, by the time you feel the pinch the needles already gone though. It hurts way more biting your tongue/lip then it does gettin it peiced. It does swell up alot afterwards but i found alot of cold food and water hepled heaps.

I got mine pierced 3 days ago. (26/11/14) Didn't hurt one bit and my pain tolerance is pretty low in my opinion. (I'm 16 year old btw) I find plucking my eyebrows a more painful experience. But it really depends on your pain tolerance. My aunty got hers re-pierced with me and she said it was a lot more painful then her first-whereas mine only felt like a tiny prick at the top of my tongue as it was coming out. I didn't have any numbing stuff either. I've only ever had my ears pierced (like 4 times as my body rejects the piercing) and my tongue was less painful then my ears

ADVISE:

• Go to a good piercer that has a license & is experienced.

• Make sure they are completely sanitary.

• Have them talk you through the process of the tongue piercing before and as they are doing it.

• Make sure the pierce it from bottom to top as your tongue is a muscle and they can easily hit a vein or get nerve damage.

STRAIGHT AFTER PIERCING:

Mine didn't swell as much as I thought it would. I would advise taking a bottle of iced water and drinking it straight after as it slows the swelling process(feels amazing) and continuing to drink iced water over the next couple of days until the swelling goes down.
