First aid for a serious burn involves several key steps: immediately remove the person from the source of the burn and ensure their safety. Cool the burn by gently rinsing it with lukewarm water for 10-20 minutes, avoiding ice or very cold water. Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick bandage or cloth and avoid using any ointments or creams. Seek emergency medical attention if the burn is severe, covers a large area, or affects the face, hands, feet, or genitals.
Get them breathing before you do anything with the burn.
Because First Aid gives them treatment, comfort and if the injury is serious, a better chance of survival.

Since sunburn is a first degree burn you should first cool off the burn under cool water or with an ice pack. Then you can apply burn gel or aloe.
