Also, if you don't mind me adding, apparently in adults you can try this excise to help manage overactive gag reflexes:

  1. Place your finger on your tongue and slowly move it back towards your throat until you feel the gag.
  2. Stop when you do; do not remove your finger.
  3. Then, take 3 - 4 slow, deep breaths through your mouth.
  4. Stop and start taking deep breaths from your nose.
  5. Again switch back to your throat and continue taking a few more breaths until the urge to gag subsides.
  6. Now repeat the entire procedure again.

Apparently this exercise will definitely help you to control gag, good luck and hope this has helped.
