An x-ray before you get pregnant is completely safe, there is no lingering radiation effect. Even during pregnancy if a physician prescribes an x-ray for your health there are measures that can be taken to protect the developing baby, though it is probably better to hold off until the second trimestyer when the baby is fully formed. When I trained as a midwife in the late 70's, if there appeared to be a possible problem, some women were still having x-rays at around 38 weeks to check if the baby would fit through the pelvis. In fact they weren't very helpful as the pelvis can stretch amazingly toaccommodate the baby and the baby's skull can alter in shape to be born.
